Cusco really is a Mecca for vegetarian and especially vegan food in South America. In fact, during three days we just weren’t able to try everything the city had to offer. Anyway – heres a choice of some restaurants we really enjoyed:
- Green Point: Calle Carmen Bajo 235, San blas, CuscoThats honestly the best vegan restaurant I’ve ever been to! The full menue is vegan fusion cuisine and everything has been so fantastic that we went there three times during our three days and even bought some food for our bus/train rides to Machu Picchu and Lima which counts up to five times I guess. And if you are missing good bread you can get it here for breakfast or to go as well, it’s unbelievable good. Plus: it’s not even expensive. Each day at lunchtime you can get a menue with salad buffet, soup, main dish and a drink for 10 Soles! As you can tell: I’m raging about this restaurant, please go there if you’re in Cusco.
- Green Organic: Santa Catalina Angosta, 135, CuscoThis place is really close to the Plaza de Armas and a bit more upscale, although not expensive at all. We’ve been there to have breakfast and realized that there are not many vegan options at least for breakfast. Still, they had fantastic waffles and a delicious mushroom-feta sandwich as well as fresh juices and good coffee. In fact, I’ve been barely able to walk when we left he place. I can imagine that the dishes for lunch and dinner are also very good, at least people do think so on Tripadvisor.
- Jack’s Cafe: Choquechaka 509, CuscoYou’ll find Jack’s Cafe in every single guide book and the almost 1.500 reviews on Tripadvisor do guarantee that this place is always packed. As of course it’s super touristy we didn’t want to go there initially but because another vegan restaurant was closed we remembered that they are supposed to have a really good vegetarian burger and we decided to give it a try. And we weren’t disappointed: we shared the burger and a Hummus Sandwich and both of them have been fantastic, the waiters were nice, fast and the food wasn’t expensive.
