Lima

11. April 2015

Sometimes we are stupid. Like that day when we thought we should just skip Lima as it’s probably just another big city with all its advantages and disantvantages. But then again, we are usually also very lucky. Like that day when we decided to go there anyway. We arrived after a really long 21 hours busride. On our way from the bus terminal to the hostel I lost my mobile in the taxi. So instead of taking a shower we went back to the terminal where we found out that the driver returned my mobile! As if that hasn’t been enough back in the hostel we discovered that two of the loveliest danish people which we met in Mendoza and missed ever since happened to be in the same hostel. We properly celebrated this fact three days sraight which is the reason for the lack of pictures. Anyway, when we crawled out of our beds each noon we took advantage of the fact that Lima is known as the culinary capital of South America. Here’s a choice of restaurants we really liked:

  • AlmaZen / Recavarren 298 Miraflores, LimaThis place was amazing!! It’s a vegan/vegetarian restaurant in Miraflores and theres a handwritten menue which changes regulary. We honestly couldn’t believe how excepional and sophisticated everything tasted. Bruno had some sesame-mashed potatoes with a lemon-ginger chutney and vegetables from the wok. I had zucchini canelloni with cashew-cheese and a filling with artichoke and other vegetables and salad. This has been one of the best meals I ever had. Definitely don’t miss this place!
  • El Bar Verde / Calle Berlin 407, Miraflores, LimaOne morning we stumbled upon this place, desperately in need for something fresh and we haven’t been disapointed. We had an amazing detox smoothie and two delicious vegan sandwiches. They also had lunch options which seemed to be very good.
  • La Lucha Sangucheria Criolla / Psje. Marcelino Champagnat 139 (esq. Martir Olaya),, LimaOur friends told us about this place right in front of our hostel. We went there for a nasty breakfast-lunch combination and we got what we needed: a vegan sandwich  accompanied by amazing french fries and a smothie
  • Twist Gourmet Burger Bar / Avenida Grau 384 | Barranco, LimaOne night we took a look at Barranco, went to a Mario Testino exhibition and afterwards felt like burgers. Bruno read about this burger place where they also have vegan burgers and so we went there. You can order every burger on the menue also as vegan or vegetarian option and they also had a great choice of sides and drinks.
